I started off on my oven-baked fries journey with sweet potatoes which I still make here and there but these regular old French fries really hit the spot when I get a craving.
There are so many baked French fry recipes out there but most other methods for homemade oven fries, while effective, were too fussy for me. I’ve read about the crispy oven fries cornstarch trick and soaking the fries prior to baking, but I decided that it was too much of a hassle.
If you don’t know by now, I love good food that is not too complicated. I just don’t have the time during the week for all the extra steps. My goal is to always make healthy-ish food that my family will enjoy and that doesn’t take hours to make. That’s why these are perfect as a side dish to baked chicken, burgers, or fish.
Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they are an easy classic that never gets old.
How To Make Homemade Oven Fries
Once you learn how to make these French fries from scratch and you see how easy and a hit they are with your family, you’ll be happy to have them as part of your collection of recipes. The length of time for baked French fries will vary depending on how thick you decide to cut them.
How Long to Bake French Fries: Try your best to cut all of your fries to the same size. Remember, the thicker the fries, the longer they will take to bake and if your fries are too thin, they’ll just be a burnt crisp chip-like texture.
- Spread the fries in an even layer, don’t let them touch each other.
- Bake for 12 minutes, then flip and bake for another 10 minutes. Yes, you have to flip each individual fry. This gets them crispy on both sides! Eat immediately for the best texture.
You may wonder, are homemade baked fries healthy?
Yes! By using whole food ingredients; potatoes, olive oil, and salt, they are a healthy side dish you can feel good about serving your family. And besides the ingredients, here’s why these are healthier than restaurant fries: the serving size is moderate compared to a huge restaurant-sized portion so you’re not overdoing it by keeping the calories down.
