Once you realize how simple it is to pop your own popcorn, you’ll always make this stovetop popcorn recipe! It’s easy, healthy, and tastes delicious! And if you happen to have leftovers, it still tastes fresh and yummy the next day.
The secret is to wait until your oil is at the right temperature before adding all your kernels. And then you want to make sure you listen and once the popping slows to a few seconds between pops it’s done and you need to turn off your heat! Also, keeping your lid slightly ajar, will let the steam out and make your popcorn crispier and less tough.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- Popcorn Kernels
- Olive Oil
- Salt
Popcorn Toppings:
My family and I like our popcorn with just salt, but there are other delicious toppings you can add to your popcorn. Try melted butter! Pro tip; if you let the butter get just a little bit brown, it will add a more intense butter flavor. A savory option is parmesan cheese with a little garlic powder. Or go for a sweet topping with cinnamon and sugar.
The Very Best Stovetop Popcorn
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat a large pot on medium heat and add the olive oil and one popcorn kernel.
- Put the lid on slightly ajar and listen for the one kernel to pop. Once that kernel pops, add in the rest of your kernels. Put the lid on and give the pot a few gentle shakes. Put the lid slightly ajar again and listen and you should start to hear the popcorn pop.
- Once the popcorn slows to a few seconds between pops, remove your pot and turn off the heat. With this technique, nearly all of the kernels pop and nothing burns.
- Add your salt to taste, and or any other toppings.
- Enjoy!
